In the late summer of 2022 Frank and Nick, two Belgian photography students, visited Les Rencontres d’Arles.
Wandering around the exhibitions, they are confronted with their long way ahead. Suddenly they realize they aren’t visiting as photographers but rather as tourists. This insight shifts their point of view, so they start acting like tourists. In between exhibitions, Frank and Nick pay attention to the beautiful scenery of Arles. They photograph each other in the same location in the same pose, just like they have seen in the photo albums of their grandparents. Their project takes an unexpected turn when one of them is struck by an unpleasant medical condition and is forced to leave the festival early.
'We were having a great time in Arles until the hemorrhoids decided to show up' is a photo book about putting yourself in perspective and celebrates the pleasure of picture taking. It represents two photography students trying to find their place in a professional art context.
